Salzburg is unique – in every regard. Regardless of the season, Salzburg always radiates its own unique charm. Aside from its world-famous cultural and musical highlights, Salzburg offers many other compelling and exciting reasons to make a trip here. Anyone who has ever immersed themselves in the magic of the world-famous City of Mozart can never escape it again. The harmonious interplay of landscape and architecture, art and culture, as well as traditional and modern, all within a surprisingly small area, merely adds to the special charm of this place.
The Baroque gardens of the Mirabell and Hellbrunn Palaces are real oases. A stroll through the world's oldest tree avenue like Maria von Trapp, 17th-century Hellbrunn Avenue, combines romantic nature and culture. Prefer something more active? Climb the Untersberg on the city outskirts, also accessible by cable car. Or take a walk on the Mönchsberg and revel in the wonderful view of the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town.
This city is music. As the birthplace of W. A. Mozart, as the stage for the famous and glamourous Salzburg Festival and as the film location for "The Sound of Music", Salzburg is known all over the world. On a closer look, you can find the perfect harmony of nature and architecture, art and culture, tradition and modernity. The soft green city mountains surrounding the baroque center invite to a picturesque and romantic stroll through the narrow streets ending in one of the many cozy garden restaurants.
The main shops are located in the center of the Old City, along the right and left sides of the Salzach River. The Getreidegasse is probably one of the loveliest Shopping streets in the world: a wide range of stores inviting visitors to browse and shop are found behind the elaborately decorated façades, in the traditional passageways and inside the landmarked. Stores are usually open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday. Some stores open as early as 8:00 AM and close for a one or two-hour lunch break. Others, such as souvenir shops, are also open on Sundays and holidays.
