EXHIBITION: "DIE RÖMER AM UNTEREN INN" IN THE MUSEUM OCHZET-HAUS IN ALTHEIM
Archaeologists from the university of Vienna have been working on the excavation site of Altheim since 1991, and since 1995 they exhibit their finds in the Museum Ochzet-Haus.
Visitors can find out more about the history of Altheim and the surrounding area, while the locals get some information about their Roman roots.
The archaeologists also explain the methods used on the excavation sites, and much more.
Roman history comes alive in this excellent museum, where clay pots, plates, oil lamps, coins, jewelry, and many other interesting finds are exhibited. You feel like travelling back in time and experiencing how the Romans lived on their farms 2000 years ago. You also see the material used to build and to decorate Roman farms.
In addition to the finds there are numerous descriptions and photos to give you some explanation of the topics of this museum. A Roman grave with burial objects illustrates how the Romans buried their dead.
Each year we try to add new finds to the exhibition and to vary the topics a little bit, in order to keep the museum up to date. For pupils we offer special programs, so they can enjoy visiting this museum even more!
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our museum!
