Altaussee always has been a meeting point for creative people - painters, writers, musicians. You´re well advised to follow their example.
The landscape presents itself either with bright limestone summits, forests, blossoming meadows, or with wide, snow-covered areas. The lake´s water is either clear and blue, perfect for swimming in summer, or ice-covered in winter, offering a feast for the eye: views from the sunbathing lawn across the lake, into the Salzkammergut area, to the Dachstein glacier, from the Pflindsberg castle ruins to the town itself. Especially the view from the sunny Loser ski mountain of the Ausseerland region is famous, ranging from the Dachstein summit to the far summit of the Großvenediger mountain. Altaussee tastes good: fresh, smoked char is a culinary delight. Altaussee is good for all your senses: the beautiful traditional costumes are part of daily life, and so is traditional music. The thorn-house spoils your respiratory tract with salt-water and fir brushwood. Swimming, hiking, skiing, cross-country skiing, enjoying, celebrating, feeling at home: all that is Altaussee.

Joyous reunionsThe charm of Altaussee is already in its name. Everything has tradition here. For more than 100 years miners have been working in the salt mine. Fishers, like their ancestors before, fish chars from the crystal-clear lake. And our guest love Altaussee in the same way, like the first foreigner that came to our town more than 100 years ago and realized that they felt at home here. Contact - skip
