Welcome to Eisenstadt the home own Haydn!

Eisenstadt the capital, and the cultural and educational center of the province of Burgenland. Its mild Pannonian climate is ideal for growing the high-quality grapes that are pressed to vintage wines. As wine town and town of Haydn Eisenstadt is one of the most charming small towns in eastern Austria.

The charming Baroque town - its buildings have been influenced by the Esterhazy dynasty - is located at the southern foothills of the Leithagebirge mountainrange. It is Austria´s smallest and youngest provincial capital.

Eistenstadt had its heyday in the 18th century when it was ruled by Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy, in whose music chapel Joseph Haydn worked for 30 years.

Because of Haydn and his brilliant compositions Eisenstadt has become famous far beyond the borders. Other famous personalities like Fanny Elßler, Josef Weigel, and Ignaz Philip Semmelweis are from Eisenstadt.
