The municipality Rappottenstein is situated away from the main traffic routes in the centre of the Waldviertel. Many say that it´s only here that the Waldviertel really starts. The municipality comprises 4 main villages namely Rappottenstein, Kirchbach, Roiten and Pehendorf, as well as 16 smaller communities. Despite this large area, a healthy infrastructure is still to be found here. That´s what makes us really attractive. In our varied landscape - extensive woods, lush grasslands and fields, clear rivers, deep gorges, beautiful views - you will find everything that makes life worth living. RAPPOTTENSTEIN - An interesting spot in the WaldviertelCastle Rappottenstein: In summer, this historic monument of the 12th century is open to all visitors. For several years already, an extensive culture program is being offered also in summer; information and programs can be sent to all those interested.A special point of attraction is the local museum Roiten. The museum has been created by the international artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. A new attraction has been created in Kirchbach with the open air museum "Brettersäge". A 4 metre large water wheel generates the energy of an old machinery. The parish churches, Rappottenstein dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, the parish church of Kirchbach dedicated to the archangel Michael, are also worth the visit. Furthermore, there is a varied culture program all year long, offering special features for old and young. The untouched nature of Rappottenstein is best apt for hiking tours. A network of around 100 km is to be found explained in detail on a map. Special hiking targets are the Schütt, the Lohnbach fall, the glacier mill, the devil´s church, the castle mountain paths and the valley of the small and the large Kamp river.
