Absdorf owes its publicity to the Austrian National Railways. In 1870, the Emperor-Franz-Josef-track from Vienna Franz Josef station to Eggenburg had been opened up. In 1872, a further railway track to Krems and into the Wachau valley had been established, starting in Absdorf. In addition, the north-west track Stockerau - Vienna Floridsdorf had been built, leading to the intersection station Absdorf-Hippersdorf. Worth seeing are the parish church St. Mauritius, the pest column and the museum of local history, which accommodates a collection of about 2000 exhibits. Wine lovers will be pleased to find a romantic cellar lane, many Heurigen cellars and wine taverns. Highlight is the cellar lane party taking place in the middle of August. Sporty people can indulge in walking the numerous loop hiking paths; furthermore there are 3 tennis courts, a sports field and a heated open air swimming pool with water slide. Costums and community life are tended at many traditional celebrations: Fire brigade party at Pentecost, "Bründl" party in the middle of July, Sportsmen Heuriger at the beginning of August, cellar lane party in the middle of August and the annual funfair in September.
