Forchtenstein
Welcome to Forchtenstein! Forchtenstein, a town in the Rosalia region, is known as an ideal place for family vacation. It´s very children friendly. The Esterházy "Burg Forchtenstein" castle was built in the 14th century. Since the 17 century it is owned by the Esterházy family and was important for the defense of the Habsburg Empire against the Turkish in the east. The castle offers a large collection of arms and art treasures. The Rosalienkapelle chapel was erected in 1666 and is the located at the highest point of the Rosaliengebirge mountains, the Heuberg (748 m). The chapel is a popular place of pilgrimage. Further sights: Baroque parish church The town offers activities and events e. g. the spring concert performed by the Forchtenstein Music Club, "Forchtenstein Fantastic" on July weekends, summer solstice party, "Rosalienkrieg" on the first Sunday of September, chestnut party in front of the castle with chestnut "Strudel" on the 2nd Sunday of October.
