Burgenland´s third largest town Mattersburg is an important school and trading town.

A variety of shops, guesthouses, restaurants, and taverns with beer gardens are to be found in the quiet town center. The guild tree in front of the Florianihof farm testifies the long tradition of crafting. A watch made of flowers ticks in the town park. The Gothic church is the towns landmark. The 150-year old train viaduct that bridges the Wulkatal valley is also a famous landmark.

8 tennis courts, a swimming pool with slide and beach-volleyball court, a skater´s ground, and hiking and cycling trails are available. The leisure program is completed by events in the Bauermühle mill and the cultural center. The Halterkreuz cross, that dates back to 1442, can be visited in the Schubertpark park. It is one of the town´s oldest preserved shrines.
