Deutschlandsberg
Deutschlandsberg, the Schilcher wine town at the foot of the Koralpe mountains
Deutschlandsberg is a small town that grew from a small settlement around the Burg Landsberg castle.
Already in Roman times the district´s capital was an important traffic junction. Located at the foot of the Koralpe mountain range with its mule tracks, Deutschlandsberg was ideal for trading, changing horses and reloading carriages. Wine and salt were the most important trading products, the name of the "Weinebene" region still reminds of that. It is famous for its mild climate; even sweet chestnut trees prosper in this wood-covered, hilly landscape. Vineyards are also characteristic of Deutschlandsberg; it is the town with the largest Schilcher vineyards of western Styria. Rustic wine taverns, where you can taste this unique wine, are ideal for relaxation. In our oil mills you can learn about the production of the typical Styrian pumpkin seed oil and also taste it.
