Bistro "Glacis Beisl" in Vienna
Our recommendations

This bistro is a wee bit hard to find, located atop the old city walls of Vienna. With its romantic garden, it is a popular watering hole for a widely diverse crowd.

Wien, Museumsplatz 1

The city walls are about 300 years old; today’s well frequented Museum District housed stables and military facilities during the imperial era. This eatery is named after the “Glacis”, an open space in front of the historic City Museum; the inner city restaurant has been in existence since World War II. Nowadays, it implements a highly modern philosophy of dining, bringing a breath of fresh air to everything it touches, remodeling even classic Viennese cuisine.
Dishes such as vintage goulash are important components, along with butter-sautéed veal schnitzel and venerable boiled beef with its customary side dishes. Yet the ancillary aspects of this cuisine are equally well realized here, from superbly drawn draft beer to an exquisite selection of brandies, all the way to an amibitous wine list.
