“Glatt&Verkehrt” is Austria’s largest festival for traditional music from all over the globe. The covered courtyard of the Winzer Krems winery, with its marvellous views of the city, the Danube River, and Göttweig Abbey, is the festival’s main performance venue.
While the sounds of Latin-American rhythms, hammered dulcimer, and free-bass accordions fill the air, fine wines emerge from the cellars, and delectable regional foods are served in the adjacent tent area. The Baroque Göttweig Abbey, perched high above the Danube, is the home of the music workshop, which offers classes to students for two weeks. The arcade courtyard of the Minorite monastery in Stein has now joined the Klangraum Krems in the Minorite church as a charming new open-air venue for festival events.
