Sometimes less is more — this is what the owners of the Kitz Garni thought when they set about reducing their 36 guest rooms by nearly a third and transforming their old 3-star establishment into a boutique hotel.
As soon as you step into the Kitz Garni you notice that things are a bit different here than in many other hotels: instead of the customary reception desk, where you check in standing at a counter, the Kitz Garni has a large rustic wooden table where all formalities are taken care of with the guests seated comfortably in colourfully upholstered wing chairs. Then take a peek into the small lounge furnished in modern Alpine style — the perfect place for your first Aperol or a last glass of red wine in the evening. Upstairs you will find the double rooms and the somewhat larger ”double rooms deluxe” — all with free WLAN and balcony. Located on the lower level, and offering plenty of space for all the hotel guests, is the small but elegantly designed wellness area, with infrared cabin, two saunas, steam bath, and hot tub on the terrace. Guests can also take advantage of a tastefully appointed quiet room with water beds and two cubicles for massages and beauty treatments. A treat for nature lovers is the hotel’s superb location high up on the Bichalm, affording splendid views and only 15-20 minutes by foot to Kitzbühel’s historic town centre. Hiking paths and mountain-bike routes begin right at the front door. And in winter, it is no more than five minutes by car to the base station of the Hahnenkamm gondola. But the highlight of every morning, before one heads for the cross-country trail, ski slopes, or hiking paths, is the breakfast buffet offering different specialities every day, such as trout-caviar cream, salmon salad, and homemade spreads served in small preserving jars. A pleasant feature after a strenuous day in the mountains: although the hotel serves only breakfast, by prior arrangement you can enjoy fondue specialities in the cosy ”Stube” in the evening.
