Lisl Wagner-Bacher is the grande dame of Austrian cuisine. She has succeeded, with the congenial support of her husband Klaus Wagner, a recognized connoisseur of Wachau and Bordeaux wines, to turn the onetime baked-chicken stopover in the country into one of the most famous gourmet restaurants far and wide.
She now cooks together with her son-in-law, the highly decorated culinary craftsman, Thomas Dorfer, and produces mealtime creations which are rare and stunning treats. The basic products are all regional, with fish and sea food from more distant sources, of course. Creativity and high-precision workmanship are the hallmarks of the cuisine at Landhaus Bacher which, however, never appears artificial or affected.
This niveau is complemented by the wine cellar, from which Klaus Wagner offers probably the world’s best assortment of Wachau wines. He supplements them with a treasure chest of fine Bordeaux reds to round out the selection. What a fortunate thing it is, that this comfortable and lovable inn also has charming guest rooms to overnight in...
