Schubertiade in the Bregenzerwald
Our recommendations

For over twenty-five years the Schubertiade has accomplished the seemingly impossible: retaining its intimacy while becoming the world’s top Schubert festival.

With the renovation of Markus Sittikus Hall in 2005, the Schubertiade was able to return to its original home of Hohenems after a fifteen-year hiatus. The nearby Bregenzerwald village of Schwarzenberg, with a population of 1,700, has established itself as the second festival venue.

Surrounded by lush, green Alpine pastures, extensive forests, and the rocky outcroppings of the surrounding mountains, the Angelika Kauffmann Hall, with its simple wood construction, is regarded as one of the three acoustically best chamber-music halls in all of Austria, along with the Mozartsaal at Vienna’s Konzerthaus and the concert hall at Salzburg’s Mozarteum.

The beautiful Alpine setting, scenic hikes, and encounters with the world’s finest singers are all part of the special magic of the Schubertiade. Chamber music and piano recitals are additional focal points. The programme is complemented by occasional orchestral concerts, readings, and master classes.
