The Seehof Goldegg has a total of only 27 rooms and suites. That it nevertheless counts among the country’s great hotels is due its prime location, unrivalled ambience, and prize-winning cuisine, which has even earned rave reviews from Hollywood stars like Nicolas Cage.
The German gourmet magazine ”Der Feinschmecker” calls it one of the ”best golf hotels in Europe,” and for the past decade the stringent testers from Gault Millau have consistently awarded it 15 points and two toques! These are distinctions of which the Seehof Goldegg can be proud, but they by no means make its owners, Sepp and Susi Schellhorn, smug or arrogant. On the contrary: only few top-flight hotels boast such a casual and uncomplicated atmosphere. Whether you sip your cappuccino in the Blauer Salon, unwind with a glass of whiskey in the lounge/library, or gaze out over the Goldegger See from the terrace: at the 280-year-old Seehof, it’s all about pure relaxation and pleasure of the highest order. This is of course true of the Restaurant Hecht as well, where, if one has half-board, one is served delicacies such as crayfish from the lake, glazed calf’s liver, celeriac soup with a creamy froth, crispy farm chicken, and cabinet pudding with mango-passion-fruit sauce. Every evening the menu lists five delectable a-la-carte courses — a wonderful agony of indecision. This, by the way, also applies to choosing the right theme room. Should your chambers be decorated with angler, flower, or skiing motifs? Or perhaps you prefer the red-and-white Coca-Cola room? Each room and suite is individually and lovingly designed. Incidentally, exactly where Nicolas Cage lay his tired head remains a secret: after all, at the Seehof, discretion is a matter of honour! www.derseehof.at
