Arlberg - The Cradle of Alpine Skiing

It is a legend in itself, a byword for passion, the crowning pinnacle of its sport! The Arlberg region – The Cradle of Alpine Skiing and the home of choice for all those who have succumbed to the fascination of the Alpine winter.

Cradle of skiing at the Arlberg
The upcoming winter season will bring again more innovation on the Arlberg. 2 new lifts in St. Anton and Lech/Zürs will be ready for the ski opening in November 2009.

85 mountain lifts in the entire Arlberg area grant access to 280 kilometres of marked runs and 180 kilometres for off-piste skiers.

Gault Millau-graded restaurants in the snow

What makes a holiday in the Arlberg Region so special is not least the unique combination of boundless skiing pleasure, Après Ski and an extremely wide gastronomic supply.

From Tyrolean delicacies up to the exquisite Gault Millau-graded restaurants, the Arlberg Region is noted for the highest culinary pleasures.

Excellent food, remarkable service and a wonderful ambiance are not only popular with winter sportsmen; testers from the Gault Millau decorated five restaurants in the international ski resort with the valued toque. The Alte Post, ben.venuto, Raffl’s in the Hotel St. Antoner Hof, the Verwallstube on the Galzig in St. Anton am Arlberg as well as the Hospiz in the hotel of the same name in St. Christoph am Arlberg are all included. The Verwallstube on the Galzig is honoured with two “hats” and is therefore at 2185 metres of altitude the highest situated Gault Millau-graded restaurant in Europe.

The guests sit in their ski clothing at stylishly spread tables and enjoy exquisite culinary creations, noble wines and a mountain panorama with snow-covered slopes and magnificent peaks.

Lech, recently named “World gourmet village” by the Falstaff Gourmet Guide, is the place in Austria with the highest density of Gault Millau toques per inhabitant anywhere in Europe! Select gourmet events take place throughout the winter at the excellent establishments of Lech and Zürs.
