Christmas Markets in Graz

The Graz advent markets lie within walking distance of one another and all opening times plus a calender of events can be found on the Advent in Graz website. Here are just a few of the highlights.

Advent Market in front of the City Hall
As the chill of winter sets in, we huddle together for warmth. In front of Graz City Hall there is a welcoming village of stalls, offering traditional handicrafts and wonderful treats for the body and soul. The local festive tipple is "Feuerzangenbowle" - a blend of wine and rum set on fire - so no worries about keeping warm. To keep the kids entertained there is a much-loved children's carousel.

Traditional Christmas Market at the Franciscan Quarter
The oldest Christmas market in Graz is to be found around the Franciscan church. Styrian handicrafts, farm-produced specialities, punch and Glühwein provide heart-warming cheer. At the entrance to the church a nativitiy scene complete with real sheep, a carousel and toys makes chilren's eyes light up.

Arts and Crafts Market on Färberplatz
The Art and Crafts Market on Färberplatz is no longer a secret rendezvous for lovers of genuine handicrafts. Here everyone can find top-quality wares made from cloth, clay, wood, metal, paper, wax and glass.

Advent Market on Glockenspielplatz and Mehlplatz
The square under the magical Glockenspiel, much loved by visitors to Graz year round, becomes a hub of conviviality during the festive season. Alongside the exquisite arts and crafts for sale, local direct marketers and caterers offer delicacies from Styria. A wide range of handicraft demonstrations encourage young and old to join in.

"Wonderlend" on Mariahilferplatz
Advent in Lend, the new creative hub of Graz, adopts art and creativity as its theme for the first time this year. With a forest of Christmas trees designed by up and coming artists, the DJ line-ups complete the chilled out scene on Mariahilferplatz.

City Hall Advent Calendar
Experience the beautiful facade of the Graz Rathaus (City Hall) transformed into a huge, illuminated Advent calendar at dusk.

Ice Crib in the Landhaushof
Since 1996 a unique nativity scene carved out of crystal clear ice has been displayed each year in the so-called Landhaushof, the most beautiful Renaissance yard in Graz. In just a few years, the nativity scene ("Ice crib") with life-size figures and a massive ice formation has established itself as the popular favourite of the Graz Advent festivities.
