During Haydn's tribute year of 2009, the popular Kobersdorf Schloss-Spiele will be supplementing Burgenland's cultural offering with an "intrigue set to music", specially created around the story of Haydn's skull, by Michael Korth.
Guided by popular actor and director Wolfgang Böck, in recent years Kobersdorf Castle Plays have become one of the highlights of the Burgenland summer festival season. In 2009 they too are paying tribute to the anniversary boy. Wolfgang Böck had the idea of commissioning a work focusing not on the music, but on Joseph Haydn the man. He entrusted famous author Michael Korth to write a stage adaptation of Haydn's life story.
The result is rich in emotions, revealing in background and depth, enjoyable and fast paced, entitled "Der Kopf des Joseph Haydn" (Joseph Haydn's Head), accompanied by terrific dance scenes and surprising musical numbers, in short – a completely different look at Haydn. The play will be performed on the open-air stage at Schloss Kobersdorf, Burgenland, on 17 evenings between 6 July (première) and 2 August. Performances start at 20.30.
