Austria's renowned festivals have long attracted culture lovers from all over the world, such as the dramatic, monumental productions of the Bregenzer Festspiele and its lakeside stage, offering an entirely new opera experience. At the Salzburger Festspiele, international celebrities from politics and economy meet culture lovers from near and far. Despite being Schubert's most important festival in the world, the Schubertiade in Hohenems and Schwarzenberg still manages to maintain an intimate atmosphere. Culinary delights, a castle with a park, modern architecture and a range of world-class concerts come together at the Musikfestival Grafenegg, and even jazz, dance and performance festivals have established themselves as cultural events of the highest quality in Austria.

Regional Highlights

On top of all of this, there are many smaller festivals that explore exciting topics which are closely related to each region. "Jazz on the Mountain" can be heard at the Jazzfestival Saalfelden, and Austria's World Music at the Schrammel Klang Festival in the Waldviertel. Puppet shows as well as acrobatic performances make the audience marvel year after year at the La Strada Street Theatre Festival in Graz, and the Klangspuren Festival of Contemporary Music in Schwaz skillfully combines regional artists with international stars.
