Modern Art in Salzburg
One of our Terrific Tips

The Salzburg Foundation annually invites an artist of international reputation to the city, familiarize themselves with it, and execute a work in the public space. Visitors can take a tour of these pieces on a "Walk of Modern Art".

The Salzburg Foundation is a private initiative, which is devoted to art in the public space. Since 2002 the it has commissioned a number of distinguished contemporary artists to execute installations in outdoor public spaces in Salzburg. Art enthusiats or visitors who simply want to see the city from a different angle can join a “Walk of Modern Art” to visit the collection, which includes works by Anselm Kiefer, Mario Merz, Marina Abramovic, Markus Lüpertz, James Turrell, Stephan Balkenhol and Tony Cragg.  The tour takes two hours and is held on the first Saturday of every month.
