National Park Hohe Tauern
One of our Terrific Tips

„Find your true inner self where nature is at its purest" is the motto of a lot of people who choose the wildly romantic mountain scenery and clear lakes of the National Park Hohe Tauern to relax.

Bordering the Austrian provinces of Carinthia, SalzburgerLand and the Tirol, Hohe Tauern is the largest national park in Central Europe. With peaks like the Großglockner, the highest mountain of Austria, wide glaciers and the impressive Krimmler Water Falls, National Park Hohe Tauern is a complex wonder of nature. In the center its wildlife is completely untouched, and in the outer areas it is a harmonious combination of sustainably cultivated landscape and a living space full of nature.

Within this unique world there are numerous hiking trails, which can be explored alone or by guided walking tours, accompanied by well-trained national park rangers. The hiking network covers about 1,200 kilometers of trails with more than 80 mountain huts and rest areas to break up your rambles. On rainy days, a visit to one of the visitors' centres such as the Nationalparkzentrum Mittersill is a great alternative, where you can witness the surrounding nature via multi-media experience.
