Biking in Zillertal

From families to pros, from recreational riders to first timers, in the Zillertal biking is a whole lot of holiday fun.

How many 3000m peaks can you spot? In the Zillertal, keeping count means some big numbers. Countless summits reaching 3000m, an over 800km cycling network, 214km of blue routes, 274km of red routes, 336 of black routes, 8 cable cars with bike transport and 150 chalets and huts serving up tasty and hearty fare.

Bike hire of all variety, including e-bikes, is readily available here and can be conveniently arranged whether within a holiday package or on arrival in the region. Excursions with friendly local guides are also a great way to familiarise yourself with the trails and terrain of the area.

Event Tip: The annual 3-day Zillertal Bike Challenge is a unique racing experience for professional and recreational bikers alike. Having established itself as a permanent fixture on the racing calendar of the European mountain bike scene, the course features challenging climbs, amazing mountain scenery and an exciting finish at the Hintertux Glacier. The race is set up in age groups as well as 3 different categories - King/Queen, Prince/Princess or Lord/Lady. Which will you crown yourself? This year’s event will be held 4th - 6th July 2014.
