Some of the delicious treats that awat you along the Cheese Trail in Vorarlberg's Bregenzerwald
The
Cheese Trail is a unique
Bregenzerwald attraction. It isn’t a street or a road in the usual sense, but rather
a union of experts from various disciplines. Throughout the whole year, the members organise events, invite people to tasting sessions, and initiate guests into the secrets of cheese production in the
Vorarlberg region.
Discovery for all senses
Farmers, alpine dairymen, cheese-makers, restaurants, inns, museums, railways and tourist organisations all belong to the
Cheese Trail network. The thing that unites all
160 partners is their dedication to the cultivation and the maintenance of culinary delights and regional culture. Stations on the trail include the
modern cheese cellar in Lingenau where several thousand blocks of cheese are left to mature, the Käsehaus in Andelsbuch
open seven days a week selling the entire range of cheeses and delicacies from Bregenzerwald, and the alpine dairy school in Egg where you can
make your own cheese.
The finest quality
One of the special features of the
Cheese Trail is the integration of such a variety of occupational groups. The businesses taking part in the project must fulfil the
required quality criteria such as adherence to strict ecological regulations, product range and minimum assortment before they are allowed to become members. What's more, stations along the route are equipped with
uniform signposts, making it easy for those new to the region to follow.
