All of that sunshine yields high quality agricultural products, in particular wine of international fame. Something else that Burgenland is renowned for is its wonderful range of wellness facilities. Hidden deep under the earth’s surface is Austria’s most abundant source of mineral water as well as geothermal hot springs that feed places of relaxation and convalescence with therapeutic water. One third of the land consists of nature reserves, an ideal environment for harmonious nature holiday retreats. There are 2,500km of cycling paths and 1,300km of horse riding trails that offer fantastic outdoor fun, plus a busy events calender stemming from the rich culture that also inspired the composers Joseph Haydn and Franz Liszt.
Burgenland is home to Austria’s largest golf complex, the 45-hole Golfschaukel Lafnitztal in Stegersbach. Known for its spas and thermal springs, Reiter’s Golf & Country Club in Bad Tatzmannsdorf features not only 27 holes including its 18-hole championship course and a David Leadbetter Academy, but also a spa hotel. Another popular golf course is the 18-hole Golfclub Donnerskirchen, which is located between the Leitha mountains and Lake Neusiedl.

The best routes and excursions for your Austrian road trip, through magnificent mountain passes, past spectacular lakes and through beautiful old towns.
