Marie Rahm and Monica Singer met as students on the product design course at Vienna’s University of Applied Arts
. As friends they discovered an important similarity: the sense of humour that they apply to the design of everyday objects.
In 2004, the duo founded Polka Products
, and they have been creating limited edition must-have designs
ever since. They tattoo classic leather sofas, or join several different brightly patterned lampshades together to form their Doosey lamp series. The pair have also created porcelain collections with beautiful patterns for Herend, the Hungarian porcelain factory.
Polka stands for purpose and practicality, but also a certain playfulness. The concept remains the same: to enrich life with extraordinary, sensual, elegant products with a touch of humour
