Linz in Upper Austria

2013 is all about music in Upper Austria and its capital Linz, drawing inspiration from the Salzkammergut, the Danube and as European Capital of Culture 2009. Festivals from classic to contemporary await you in Anton Bruckner, Parov Stelar and Franz Welser Möst’s home region. Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote great compositions, Franz Lehar spent some time and electronic music was born here.

Linz will leave a mark again in April 2013 as it opens the doors to Europe’s most modern opera house, the new Musiktheater am Volksgarten, designed by the British architect Terry Pawson. The spectacular opening programme will feature names such as Philipp Glass and Dennis Russell Davies. From musicals to operas and experimental theater, culture-lovers can eat their heart out – and tuck into tummy delights by celebrity chef Toni Mörwald too!
