Passion plays have been an essential part of Tirolean culture since the Middle Ages. Every 6 years, approximately 600 amateur players from the village of Erl participate in the local performances. In 2013 the Passion Plays Erl celebrated 400 years with an outstanding programme. The next performances will take place from May to October 2019.
