There is more to Vienna than being the metropolis of music, coffee houses, theatres and chocolate cake. As one of the most liveable cities in the world, Vienna is culturally on the cutting edge. Creative Austria dares a second glance at the Danube-metropolis and ignores a lot of well-known Vienna-images. Discover here the fascination of a vivacious, young and thrilling city.
MQ Vienna: The MQ man risks his life daily in real superhero style in order to bring his message to the people. Those who have been to the MuseumsQuartier know that the risk is worth it.
It’s not exactly classy style to present art in a stable. A visit to the MQ Vienna, situated in the adapted K&K royal stables may, however, change your mind. “Enjoy the cultural richness of art, culture, architecture, theatre, music, dance, nightlife, performance, children’s exhibitions as well as good food and drink”, goes the slogan, which is now being lived in Vienna’s new culture quarter. Its visitors are as eclectically interesting as the remarkable backdrop: the former imperial stables provide space for art museums (Leopold Museum und MUMOK), contemporary exhibitions (KUNSTHALLE Vienna) and festivals (Wiener Festwochen). In addition there’s the international Tanzquartier, the Architekturzentrum Wien, production studios for new media and artists’ workshops for artists-in-residence.
The proclamation „Art for everyone“ really spares no one. The ZOOM Children’s Museum offers programs for children starting at birth. There is also an optional DSCHUNGELWIEN (Theater for Young Audiences) and wienXtra-kinderinfo (Service Point).
Incidentally: the red MQ couches answer to the name of ENZI (since “city furniture” would be too impersonal for the friendly objects, which are there for everyone’s use) and are a popular alternative to pub benches and beer gardens. Instead of “Schrammeln” and Viennese folk songs, there is, for example, literature (O-Töne) with at least as much Austrian coziness.
