Winter in Zell am See-Kaprun
ranges from the eternal ice of the over 3000m high Kitzsteinhorn
to the banks of the frozen Lake Zell
. This wonderful scenery is home to the entire range of winter sports. Three diversified skiing areas are perfectly suited for pros, families and beginners alike. The region also offers a variety of winter recreation off the slopes: gentle crosscountry, hiking and snowshoe tours, fast-paced tobogganing, and ice sports on Lake Zell.
Even experienced skiers will experience the ultimate adrenaline rush on the new slope on the Kitzsteinhorn
, the only glacier skiing area
in the SalzburgerLand with guaranteed snow from October to June. The new 1000m ‘Black Mamba’ slope covers 290m in altitude with an inclination of up to 63 percent – a real challenge! 41km of slopes, 18 cable cars/lifts, five free ride routes and three snow parks with Austria’s biggest super-pipe complete the offer on this 3029m mountain. The enjoyable ride up in the new Gletscherjet 3 and 4 Gondola glides over a fully reconstructed central skiing area on the glacier: as well as the construction of the new lift axis, the drag lifts are newly positioned. This season, the Kitzsteinhorn has more open, wider pistes, for even more winter fun.
The multi-faceted skiing area on the local mountain of Zell, the Schmittenhöhe
, has another attraction this winter: the world’s longest ‘Fun Slope’
, measuring 1300m in the Hochmais cable car area, is an extraordinary ski slope with numerous tunnels and tight turns. Right by the ‘Fun Slope’ is a snow park area
, which facilitates first steps into the world of free-styling but is also extremely challenging for advanced free-stylers. Little skiers learn how to ski in a playful way with Schmidolin the dragon and his friends at the newly opened ‘Schmidolin’s Dragon Park’ on the Schmittenhöhe.
In Zell am See-Kaprun, the magnificence of nature can be experienced on all levels. Three cable cars bring visitors to the highest point of the region: the Kitzsteinhorn with the impressive Peakworld 3000
. On Salzburg’s highest and most spectacular panoramic platform
, visitors have a breathtaking view of the valley of Kaprun, Lake Zell and 30 3000m peaks. In the Cinema 3000, the most altitudinous cinema of the Alps, a movie awarded in Cannes in 2011 is shown on a panoramic screen. Here, visitors can marvel at the most beautiful impressions of the Kitzsteinhorn in all four seasons.
