In Carinthia winter visitors have a wide range of the most beautiful Alpine regions from which to choose – Heiligenblut and Nassfeld, Bad Kleinkirchheim and the Mölltal Glacier – with guaranteed sun and snow. In total there are 1,031 kilometres of Alpine slopes, and the Kärnten & Ost Tirol Top Ski Pass is valid for 34 areas. Don't spend too long looking – find. That's how the saying goes in the Carinthian Alps and it applies to anything; Alpine skiing, thermal spas and family packages. The season starts in October and extends well into May.
It'll be a terrific winter for families
Parents and children can look forward to packages in Carinthia specially put together for them, with the emphasis on the fun, games and excitement that all family-friendly hosts in Carinthia are bent on providing. Peacefulness and cool are not mutually exclusive here, they are typical of the Carinthian Alps' diversity, and they're even guaranteed, of the "Kärnten Family", they have been awarded "bear" quality marks and their services for children and teens are identified by special symbols. Winter visitors can bank on it.
Winter sport is not just about flitting down the slopes though. Austria's most southerly province can also be very gentle because the superb scenery in the southern Alps is also a fantastic setting for endless winter fun off-piste, from cross-country skiing trails (eg: in the Lavant valley) and uplifting snowshoe treks via romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides, to proper (including floodlit) toboggan runs (at Heiligenblut and in the Nockberg hills). That’s not forgetting the beneficial thermal spas and atmospheric festivals and customs!
