Advent Market in front of the City HallAs the chill of winter sets in, we huddle together for warmth. In front of Graz City Hall there is a welcoming village of stalls, offering traditional handicrafts and wonderful treats for the body and soul. The local festive tipple is "Feuerzangenbowle" - a blend of wine and rum set on fire - so no worries about keeping warm. To keep the kids entertained there is a much-loved children's carousel.

The oldest Christmas market in Graz is to be found around the Franciscan church. Styrian handicrafts, farm-produced specialities, punch and
Glühwein provide heart-warming cheer. At the entrance to the church a nativitiy scene complete with real sheep, a carousel and toys makes chilren's eyes light up.

In just a few years, the nativity scene ("Ice crib") with life-size figures and a massive ice formation has established itself as the popular favourite of the Graz Advent festivities.
