Obertauern has one of the longest seasons in the Alps. When Adriatic low-pressure systems advance from the south, they make a bee-line for the Tauern Mountains, so early and abundantly that
snow cannons are hardly ever needed. So winter after winter, Obertauern – 56 miles south of Salzburg - offers an exhilarating blend of great skiing, snowboarding, live music and
endless opportunities to party.
The skiing area comprises more than
60 miles of ski-in, ski-out slopes served by 26 lifts surrounding Obertauern village. There are special green (anticlockwise) and red (clockwise) Tauern round routes, with night and early morning skiing for those who can’t resist before-and-after-hours action. The
Snowpark Obertauern at the Kehrkopf chairlift has rails, boxes and various snow obstacles. Then there's plenty for sledging enthusiasts (including night tobogganing) and
cross-country skiing too.
Children can join in all the fun here as well, with kindergartens for
nonskiers from the age of two upwards.
