In the heart of Salzburg city lies the oldest monastery in the German-speaking world. St. Peter’s Monastery, which is still active today, was founded in 969 AD. by St. Rupert, a Franconian missionary. The Benedictine abbey is known for its sumptuous Baroque decoration. Mozart’s famed Mass in C Minor premiered here in 1786 – his wife Constanze sang the soprano – and is still performed every summer during Salzburg Festival.
Stop by the adjoining cemetery with its unique ambiance. It is the oldest and arguably the most beautiful cemetery in the world. You will quickly recognize several names, such as Mozart’s sister Nannerl, and Michael Haydn (composer and Joseph Haydn’s younger brother). Also buried there is Harry Collins, the last commander of the American occupying forces and one of the city's honorary citizens.

Follow the path of ten art projects and get to know the real Salzburg. Each sculpture is a interpretation of Salzburg and, at the same time, renders the Salzburg city into one big art project.
