Getreidegasse 37, Salzburg

Did you know that Salzburg’s most illustrious restaurant, the Restaurant Goldener Hirsch, was once an old blacksmith shop? Now, instead of hammer and anvil, Chef Gernot Hicka’s skills revolve around creating incredible edible masterpieces. Where else but in the historic Getreidegasse would you find a restaurant both elegantly traditional and thoroughly contemporary in its culinary offerings.

The food is a combination of traditional Salzburg specialties as well as international dishes. Ham mousse with Cumberland sauce, saddle of farm-raised venison with red cabbage, and Bohemian dumpling with cranberries are the signature dishes. The “Karajan” table, named after the famous Austrian conductor, is the most sought after. The wooden chairs harmonize with the wooden beams on the ceiling and white walls and arches decorated with hunting themes add to the ambience. Waiters’ uniforms are coordinated with the hand-woven table linens demonstrating great attention to detail.
