Located right at the Salzburg Airport, Hangar 7 is one Europe’s most fascinating places. Stunning architecture, historic aircraft, fast cars, innovative art and world-class cuisine will keep you busy for many hours.
You love airplanes, cars, art, food and a heavy dose of architecture? Then Hangar 7 in Salzburg is your place of pilgrimage. Founded by Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder and CEO of the Red Bull energy drink empire, Hangar 7 houses a stunning collection of historic aircraft and helicopters. Much of the fascination of Hangar 7 lies in its architecture.
If you look at the construction from outside, the similarity to a wing which radiates uncommon dynamism and weightlessness is striking, despite the 1,200 tons of steel and 380 tons of special glass used in the construction. Hangar 7 is also an unlikely place for large scale art exhibits. There are no walls, no supporting surfaces and the light changes constantly with the position of the sun. However, it is precisely this unique atmosphere that makes Hangar-7 one of the liveliest art galleries in the world, with each exhibit dedicated to a particular country or region. Equally unusual in its approach is the gourmet restaurant Ikarus. Here the whole concept revolves around a guest chef who takes over the reins for exactly one month, always aided by a perfectly tuned supporting team built around executive chef Roland Trettl. Hangar 7 is located just outside Salzburg at the Salzburg airport.
