Visit the LOISIUM world of wine in Langenlois
On the edge of Langenlois, in the renowned wine district of Lower Austria (or Niederösterreich), noted architect Steven Holl has created something as innovative as the wine it celebrates.
An underground tour begins in the contemporary Visitors' Center of the LOISIUM wine museum, then passes into its Cellar World, which explores the elaborate mythology surrounding winemaking here -- the pendulum of time, the moon, a prayer wheel and Bacchus himself. Just as viticulture is an intimate practice in Lower Austria, the LOISIUM's presentation of wine is refreshingly human -- never dry or academic.
At the end of your tour, just one important step remains: enjoying a glass of Grüner Veltliner in the Vinothek.
