Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

Bordering the Austrian provinces Carinthia, Salzburg and Tirol the National Park Hohe Tauern is the largest national park in Central Europe. With peaks like the Großglockner, the highest mountain of Austria, wide glaciers as well as the impressive Krimmler Water Falls the National Park Hohe Tauern is a complex wonder of nature: In the center nature is completely untouched and in the outer areas is a harmonious companion of sustainably cultivated landscape and a living space full of nature.

In this unique world are numerous developed hiking trails, which can be hiked alone or by guided walking tours accompanied with well trained national park rangers.  The hiking network with alpine paths covers about 1200 kilometers of trails. More than 80 mountain huts and rest areas are destinations for long hiking adventures. During rainy days a visit to the “Nationalparkwelten” in Mittersill is a great alternative – this nature museum is a multi-media experience.
