For an ideal day trip in the Salzburg area, explore the Untersberg mountain, which forms a natural border to Germany. Ride up the mountain via cable car, and enjoy the magnificent view of the Rositten and Salzburg valleys and the surrounding mountains.

If you feel like it, hike from the cable car station to the Geiereck peak at 5,922 ft and still your appetite from the fresh air at the Hochalm restaurant or the Zeppezauer house with some delicious home-cooked regional specialties.  If you prefer discovering the mysterious Untersberg underground world, then enter the famous Schellenberg ice cave. Experience the world of legends, marvel at the beauty of the mountain’s interior – the deepest point goes down 1,968 ft  - and listen to some of the region’s many tales and legends, like the one of Charlemagne, who according to the legend is sleeping there with his knights, waiting for doomsday…
