Styriarte in Graz

The late Nikolaus Harnoncourt created the Styriarte in Graz, under the motto: “Old masters, newly interpreted”

Since 1985, the Styrian festivals have made encounters with lost views of our musical heritage possible and reflected the current diversity of approaches to music from the Middle Ages and Romanticism for one month in summer. The magnificent imperial mausoleum, the city hall in Graz, one of the most important Renaissance buildings, open-air events in Graz' old town and in Eggenberg Castle are just some of the venues.

In addition to the Viennese Concentus Musicus and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, leading performers of the early music scene are also regulars at the festival. Here, the works of great masters are fine-tuned in a concentrated and relaxed manner, and every year a curious audience gathers together in order to strike out in a new direction together.
