Built over 650 years ago, the “Blue Goose” is Salzburg’s oldest inn, situated at a prime location directly on Getreidegasse. After a gentle renovation, owner Andreas Gfrerer transformed it into an art hotel: Gfrerer regularly invites filmmakers and artists to explore the city of Salzburg with their art and to present their projects in his hotel. As “artists in residence”, they can allow their creativity free rein, and guests can draw inspiration from the finished works. Xenia Hausner, Franz Graf, C.O. Paeffgen, and Leif Trenkler are only a few of the renowned artists whose works can be experienced at the Blaue Gans.

And since the art hotel is devoted to art, it even publishes its own magazine, called “Goosebumps”. The hotel does not offer its art-loving clientele perfection, but rather individuality. Each room is furnished in a different manner – reduced, but cosy – and the entire hotel is an exhibition space. For those who find that lifestyle is not enough, the Blaue Gans offers the real luxury of today: being unagitated. The hotel restaurant, which has been preserved in its original form, with historic vaulted ceilings, mural paintings, wood panelling, and new takes on traditional Austrian cuisine, is a mecca for the city’s gourmets.
