Wander Bertoni’s Open-Air Museum
Our recommendations

Visitors to this sculpture garden surrounding the living quarters of the sculptor sometimes receive a guided tour by the artist himself and catch a glimpse of his “egg-citing” private collection.

Winden am See

Wander Bertoni is one of Austria’s most renowned sculptors. His works, largely abstract and symbolic sculptures and objects, are exhibited all over the world, but nowhere in such concentration as here at his home in Winden, on Lake Neusiedl. Numerous large-scale works make the field next to his house into Bertoni’s Open-Air Museum. As one approaches the buildings from this grassy area, one can see through a large window into the artist’s studio and into the gallery, which features pieces from three different work cycles. From the outside, visitors can also peek into the exhibition pavilion, with its chronological survey of Bertoni’s work. But by prior appointment with Bertoni’s wife, Waltraud, she is happy to open the buildings for you. Then you can also view the architecturally interesting Egg Museum, a very personal collection of some 3,000 eggs of various shapes and sizes that he collected from all over the world.
