“Mountains, a mysterious passion”, an exhibition by the Austrian Alpine Club, takes a creative, interactive look at a subject that is probably more deeply rooted in Tirol than in any other Austrian province: the passion for mountain climbing, with all of its ups and downs, and its physical and psychological components.
Designed to simulate a hike, the exhibition presents a colourful combination of largely historic everyday utensils, art works, research documents and reports, as well as artistically depicted emotions such as those experienced after conquering a mountain peak: a gleaming white room, in which the quotations affixed to the walls are visible only at second glance, reflects the sudden inner emptiness one feels upon attaining a goal and thus losing a long-held dream. One quote reads: “The man who has made it to the top finds himself in the situation of the person who has achieved everything he has ever desired. His situation is necessarily an unsatisfying one.” But this exhibition is that much more satisfying for the visitor.

When a hotel is voted “Europe’s most beautiful environmentally-friendly hotel” for the third year in a row by an expert jury of the German travel magazine “Geo Saison”, it must be something special. And it is: the Waldklause!
