Haus Hirt
Our recommendations

A stunningly located hideaway in the heart of the Alps combines the style of the 1920s with modern design.

Bad Gastein, Kaiserhofstrasse 14

Thomas Mann once stood in the salon and puffed on a cigar.  Stefan Zweig enjoyed magnificent view beyond the panoramic windows of mountains and the Gastein Valley, which falls gently away as far as Hofgastein.  William Somerset Maugham found perfect peace here, as did Lady Churchill and they all appreciated the very special atmosphere of this hotel.  Just a few years ago the small “Kur” hotel, built in 1924, was restored and transformed into a family-run, designer hotel, which offers every comfort of the 21st century.  Instead of cosy kitsch there is now sleek design, the bar has become a hip lounge and accommodation combines the best of old and new, retro chic with modern amenities.  The hotel offers contemporary wellness treats such as Ayurveda, yoga and Pilates classes, but has strived to retain the charm and elegant intimacy of the 1920s.
