“This inn is exquisitely furnished. (…) There are no modern-style frills – everything seems iron cast (…) and every corner of the house is spotless.” More than 150 years have passed since King Max II of Bavaria found such glowing words for the Hirschen in Schwarzenberg. And guests still dine here in the original parlours, with their lovely ceiling murals and panelled walls. The only thing that has really changed is the kitchen: it is now regarded as the best in all of Vorarlberg, and the food prepared there by the 34-year-old chef Jochen Pölz has been awarded two toques by Gault Millau. To be precise, there is one other thing that has changed: today, the Hirschen is not only a wonderful place to eat but also a heavenly place to sleep.

The hotel has a total of fifty-five beds, located either in the main building or, thirty steps away through the herb garden, in the so-called “Wälderhaus”. This is also where the small, stylish wellness area is located, whose sauna and steam bath make it the ideal place to relax after a long day of skiing, biking, or hiking. The venerable hotel has also made a name for itself as an event venue for concerts, readings, and exhibitions – facilitated by the proximity to Bregenz and its renowned festival and to the famous Schubertiade, which is held every year in Schwarzenberg, just a few steps away from the hotel.
