It’s nearly impossible to simply walk past this inn, its characteristic red facade simply exercises too enticing a charm. It sends out signals which are fulfilled to perfection inside.
Meilinger Taverne in Mittersill, Salzburg
The appellation “tavern” is a slight understatement for this 300-year old, historically listed house on Market Square in Mittersill. Yet it recalls the time when crossing the Alps on the Felbertauern road was a dangerous undertaking and guests were in great need of safe accommodations and reliable food. That can still be found today, of course, namely,
no-nonsense food circling around the
superb quality beef from Pinzgau cattle. And all around this central star, everything else is just as lovely: the
cozy atmosphere, the quality of the wines and the luscious schnaps to round out the meal.
