The MuseumsQuartier is a place where urban flair, modern architecture, and the experience of art are united in a historically interesting location: In the heart of Vienna, the MQ is housed in the former imperial stables and in several strikingly modern buildings that contrast beautifully with the baroque architecture.

Aside from being a major cultural attraction, the MQ is also a living space that can be enjoyed in many ways. For instance, the courtyard furniture elements invite visitors to sit back, relax, and have a good time, alone or in the crowd, or meet friends in a casual setting. The MQ furniture quickly made the main MQ courtyard one of Vienna’s favorite hangout spots in warm weather.

The transition between inside and outside, and culture and living is seamless here. Art not only takes place in the institutions, but is also expressed through performances and art projects in the courtyards. In addition to the organization of the popular seasonal outdoor programs “Summer at the MQ” and “Winter at the MQ,” the MQ continuously makes an effort to expand its roster of high-quality activities in the outdoor spaces. In summer, the focus is on fashion and design events, the O-Töne literary festival, the digital film festival frame[o]ut, DJ music, children’s programs, and dance performances. In winter, ice pavilions, an ice curling rink, visuals, and music create a special pre-Christmas atmosphere.

In 2014 the “MQ Summer of Sounds” will feature indoor and outdoor exhibitions, concerts, workshops, performances, installations, and more. The various elements of the program will explore different approaches to the theme of sound in relation to space.
