Free Summer Promenade Concerts

This summer from July 2 - 27 Innsbruck offers free Promenade Concerts to all visitors & guests. 30 string & brass orchestras will present open-air performances at the central courtyard of Innsbruck’s Imperial Palace. A great number of them will march in through the main boulevard Maria-Theresien-Street and down-town Innsbruck to the Imperial Palace, which provides the perfect setting for these annual concerts.

Offering delightful evening entertainment under starry skies, the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts, held in downtown Innsbruck have been a firm fixture on the towns musical calendar for the past twenty years. This summer, a number of renowned brass bands and symphony orchestras from all over Europe will be performing again in the central courtyard of Innsbruck’s Imperial Palace. This ties in perfectly with the longstanding Austrian tradition of acquainting people with musical works of art by means of light-hearted serenades, ranging from pieces dating from the 18th and 19th century, including the era of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, to contemporary pieces. This year, an exciting string of performances will be showcasing transcriptions and arrangements of famous pieces, skilfully complemented by popular Viennese light music and marches from the same periods and enhanced with film material and other visual components. Just like every year, the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts will bring to town a host of military and police orchestras and civilian marching bands.

During the 2014 Innsbruck Promenade Concerts, audiences can look forward to as many as 30 different guest performances, all of them absolutely free of charge and offering something for all musical tastes - from rhythm and romance to jaunty tunes, from dance beats to classical works and contemporary pieces. But whatever the mood - the enchanting ambiance of the Innsbruck Imperial Palace works its magic on everyone as another endless summer’s day slowly turns into a wonderfully balmy evening.
