Kaprun

Discover the unique Alpine landscapes of SalzburgerLand with an invigorating hike. Whether you’re better suited for a simple walk or a challenging climb, this unique terrain invites all visitors to have an unforgettable mountain experience. Lush pastures, rugged cliffs, pristine lakes, high mountain reservoirs and the peaks of the Hohe Tauern mountains are all within reach.

A panoramic view of snow-capped mountains, colorful pastures, and impressive mountain reservoirs is yours with a hike at the Mooserboden Dam in Zell am See / Kaprun.  Take Europe’s largest open inclined lift up to the Dam, and then follow the “Herbal Path” – a hike ideal for the entire family. Lasting 45 minutes in one direction, this path exposes the vast variety of vegetation in the Hohe Tauern Mountains.

The resort Zell Am See / Kaprun is also located close to the Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria’s oldest National Park and home to nearly a third of Austria’s entire biodiversity. As you hike at varying altitudes, you pass through altitudinal climes that range from those typical to Central Europe all the way to the extreme of the Arctic! Throughout the seasons every year, the park offers different excursions to experience the fascinating natural habitats in the mountains. Park rangers lead visitors through this protected area to observe wildlife, explore geographical strata, or even take a snowshoe hike through the snowy Tauern valleys.
