Open Air Wine Village Museum
Farm life from centuries past is revived in Moschendorf located in South Burgenland. Tours of thatched-roof houses filled with artifacts and furniture transport you back by centuries. The “Weinmuseum Moschendorf” is also a popular venue for wine tastings, concerts, art exhibitions, and folk dance.
A visit to the wine museum Moschendorf takes you back in time.
Free from the constraints of a typical museum, the “Weinmuseum Moschendorf” breathes and functions as though its artifacts and 17th century houses are contemporary. The winery, along with the dairy, blacksmith, and barrel cooperage, are still operating. Children can visit the cobbler’s workshop to observe the craft of handmade shoes, and depending on the season, the whole family can enjoy a ride on a horse-drawn wagon or sleigh.
While the “Weinmuseum Moschendorf” is a vestige of practices from the past, it is a perfect place to begin an excursion into the wine country of Südburgenland. Stop by the Gebietsvinothek Südburgenland and sample some of the top 60 wines that are selected by jury annually from the region! With numerous boutique family wineries producing specialties like Blaufränkisch from the Eisenberg appellation, you’ll discover that winemaking continues to flourish in this idyllic region.
