Especially amongst fans from overseas the film has reached a unique status and incredible popularity - and many of them dream of following Maria's footsteps at least once in their life.

Although the movie was dubbed and ran in German (and presumably Austrian) movie theatres, you may still find the Salzburg locals a little bit puzzled for the simple reason that most of them have not seen the movie.
